Hi, I’m Adam Christie, Director of Golf and General Manager at Eagle Valley Golf Club. For over 8 years I have been coaching under Golf Pro John Piccolo. With a Sport Management degree from Brock University and as a US Kids Certified Instructor, you can be confident when I tell you that if you have kids who Love, like, or are interested in golf, you need to learn about U.S. Kids Golf right now.
Have you heard of U.S. Kids Golf?
U.S. Kids Golf is on a mission to help kids have fun learning the lifelong game of golf and to encourage family interaction that builds lasting memories. The U.S. Kids Golf Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization that was established in 2001. The vision of the U.S. Kids Golf Foundation is to provide kids and their families the opportunity to participate in the game of golf through instruction and competition. Today, the U.S. Kids Golf Foundation conducts over 400 local, regional, national, and international events.
Eagle Valley Golf Club got involved in U.S. Kids Golf Foundation through requests we heard over and over again from Niagara parents: “Can we work together to bring this great foundation to Niagara?” Committed and loving parents were driving their kids all the way to Ohio to play in their closest US Kids tour. But even for extremely devoted parents, this was a challenge. We had to do something, so we did. Now Eagle Valley Golf Club is the official tour director for the Niagara U.S. Kids Golf Tournament. The best part about US.. Kids, to me, is seeing participants from the Greater Toronto area, Niagara, and Western New York compete against each other. It’s the one unique aspect of our tour that very few tours can accomplish.
One of the great things about the US Kids local tours is that it can do so many things for different individuals. For competitive players it gives them a chance to test their skills against other competitive players. For other players it gives them a chance to get tournament experience, and meet new friends. I have really enjoyed my experience with U.S. Kids. The camaraderie with the parents and kids is something I really enjoy seeing first hand. It’s great to see the way the tournaments strengthens the trust and bonds between parents and their children, and how the interactions can really help kids bloom socially. I have been tour director for three years now, so I have been able to meet and get close to many people. I also really enjoy working the World Championships every year and seeing the kids who qualified for the event through our tour.
My favorite moment in the tournament is in seeing the range of emotions and reactions from a player who just shot their best round, or had something special happen to them during their round. It is in those moments that you really see a player recognize their own potential, and sometimes it is awe inspiring. It’s in moments like this that the profound need for a local presence of the U.S. Kids Foundation is most evident. I am proud to play such an active role in bringing the tournament into Niagara year after year and I look forward to another great season.
